Davis Just misses Out on Finals Appearance

LA CROSSE, WI – The first day of the NCAA Division III National Championship Track and Field Meet took place Thursday in La Crosse, WI.  Lynchburg College's Rachad Davis was one of the competitors in the first day, and just missed making the finals.

Davis competed in the 400 meter hurdles preliminary round on Thursday.  Based off of previous qualifying times, he was placed in the innermost lane, number three, for the second heat of the afternoon.  Running against some of the favorites of the event, Davis took fourth in his heat, with a time of 52.98.  The time was a new career best for Davis.

Unfortunately for Davis, only the top nine athletes qualify for the finals.  He was eight one-hundredths of a second away from that spot, as he took tenth overall in his first appearance at a national meet.

There is still one more Hornet competing in the national meet.  Thrower Leah Heal will take part in the women's javelin event, which will be the one of the last events of the meet on Saturday.  For more information and links to the events go to athletics.lynchburg.edu.
