Hornets Ranked in Top-Five of Region

NEW ORLEANS, LA – With the close of the indoor track and field season approaching, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its regional rankings.  Both Lynchburg teams found themselves in the top-five on both the men's and women's side.

The men's team took home the top spot in the South/Southeast Region after capturing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title for the 16th consecutive year.  The team also has four performers on the cusp of qualifying for nationals.  High-jumper Jared Bloomquist is ranked 30th in the nation.  Rachad Davis is in the 36th spot for the 60 meter hurdles.  Tom Sippie is the top freshman in the nation in the 400 meter category, along with being 38th overall.  Greg Wilson rounds out the men, currently 50th in the shot put.

The women's team is currently fourth in the region after finishing third at the ODAC Championships.  Currently, thrower Kori Penick is 31st in the shot put nationally, after breaking the school record twice in the past month.

Select members of both squads will be back in action on Saturday.  The team heads to the VT Final Qualifier in Blacksburg.  Action starts at 10 a.m.
