Select Hornets Storm on New York
NEW YORK, NY – Members of the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field team competed at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational on Friday. The meet was held at the prestigious facility in New York City, called The Armory.
Rachad Davis kicked things off for the Hornets, running a season best in the 60 meter hurdles. He finished in a time of 8.45. Davis also had a personal best in the 200 meter dash, running in a time of 22.54. Not to be outdone by Davis, Tom Sippie continued to show why he will be a name to watch over the next four years. Sippie finished at 22.54 and 49.90 in the 200 and the 400 meter races respectively. They were the best times of his career. Nolan Compton also ran his top time this year in the mile with a time of 4:27.
Greg Wilson set a season best in the weight throw with a toss of 52'3". Gordon Merck also had a successful showing in the event, finishing with a distance of 46'3". Wilson also finished second in the Shot Put College section, with a throw of 47'3". Last year's ODAC indoor high jump champion, Jared Bloomquist, set a new career best in the event, reaching a height of 6'9".
For the women, Ashley Saba finished with her best time ever in the mile with a time of 5:27. She also set PR in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:31.
Britney Gulick continued her impressive indoor season with a 44'2" toss in the weight throw. Kori Penick also had a solid outing, setting a career best in the same event with a distance of 39'3". Penick also finished second in the Shot Put College section with a toss of 40'9".
The rest of the Hornets track and field teams will compete at Liberty University later today.
