LYNCHBURG, VA – The full contingent of the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Liberty Open on Saturday, which was the second day of the meet being held at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center.

The women had several notable performances, starting with one of the first events of the day.  Candice Hairston set a personal best in the triple jump.  A distance of 34'0.75" gave her the best jump in her section and placed her seventh overall, and third amongst D-III athletes.  Hairston also had a solid showing in the long jump, with a distance of 16'7".

Also for the women, Lauren Lacourciere set a personal best in the 800 meter race.

Kori Penick had a strong showing in the shot put.  She finished third, behind throwers from Radford and Liberty, with a distance of 40'11".

On the men's side, the throwers continued where they left off from last year.  Spencer Latham finished fourth in the weight throw with a heave of 50'4.5".  It was his best throw as a Hornet and was tops among non D-I competitors.  Latham continued his strong weekend, finishing eighth in the shot put.  His toss of 44'11.5" was second best among D-III throwers.  Teammate Greg Wilson took that top spot, and fourth overall, with a throw of 49'11.25".

Tom Sippie had a successful showing for the second consecutive meet.  He finished fifth in the 200 meter dash (23.27) and then anchored the 4x400 meter relay team that took second, behind Liberty's 'A' team.  Curtis Whitlow, Tristan Boysaw, Rachad Davis, and Sippie finished in a time of 3:27.97 to beat several Division I and II teams.  Davis also had a solid outing in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing fifth in 8.57 seconds.

Jared Bloomquist finished tied for second in the high jump, with a height of 6'6.25".

With the completion of the meet, the men's and women's track team will be off until next Friday.  Both teams will head to Marietta, OH, for the Marietta Open #2.  The meet is set to start at 2 p.m.
