Hornets Run at Duke Twilight
DURHAM, NC – In an effort to qualify for the national meet, members of the Lynchburg College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Duke Twilight on Sunday. In a highly competitive field, the Hornets saw success in several events.
The distance runners had a very successful day for LC. In the men's 1500 meter run, both William Orndorff and Nolan Compton posted impressive times. Orndorff set a career mark in the event with a time of 3:58.15, which was best among Division III athletes. Compton was right behind with a season-best of 4:00.56. Brandon Demers finished first for Division III competitors in the 5000 meter race in a time of 15:30.90. Another personal record was set in the 3000 meter steeplechase by Daniel Cutright, finishing in a time of 9:28.40
On the women's side, Aleshia Washington posted impressive times in both the 100 and the 200 meter dashes. In the former, she ran a time of 12.66 and finished in the latter at a time of 25.86. Both times were tops by a Division III sprinter. Christina Washington took first place by Division III runners in the 400 meter, crossing the line at 58.33.
The Hornets will host the Lynchburg College Open Multi-Event on Monday and Tuesday. 30 athletes will be competing in the decathlon and heptathlons. Action kicks off both days at 2 p.m.
