Thomasey Named South/Southeast Region Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently released the Indoor Track and Field individual awards, and LC head mentor Doug Thomasey earned top honors on the men's side for the South/Southeast Region.

Thomasey, in his second year leading Lynchburg, guided the Hornets to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship, the program's 15th straight, and Thomasey was named ODAC coach of the year for the second consecutive year.

However, Thomasey earned region coach of the year after the VT Final Qualifier on February 3.  In the last chance qualifier, six Hornet athletes set season bests and the results put Lynchburg at the top of the region rankings.

Thomasey is no newcomer to these honors.  He was named South/Southeast Region Coach of the Year in cross country earlier this year, which was his second year in a row garnering that honor.

With the indoor season over, Lynchburg will begin the outdoor season this weekend.  The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will be hosting the Dr. Jack M. Toms Open Saturday, with events beginning at 9 a.m.
