Q&A With Hornet and ODAC Athlete of the Week Greg Wilson

The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The sixteenth student-athlete in this series is sophomore indoor track and field thrower, Greg Wilson. The Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts had an impressive week in two different meets. At the LC Sprints, Jumps and Throws Challenge Wednesday, he threw the shot put 50'2", the second longest at the event.  The mark was good for second all-time in the Lynchburg record books, and puts him currently ninth in the nation. He also was fifth in the weight throw with a heave of 44'0 ¾".

At the Marietta Open, Wilson helped LC win the eight-team event. He won the shot put and was second in the weight throw. For his efforts, he was named the ODAC Player of the Week for men's indoor track and field.

Why did you choose Lynchburg College?
I chose Lynchburg College because I wanted to attend an out-of-state school as well as become a member of the track and field team here at LC. The size of the school and its friendly atmosphere was also a major contributing factor to my choice.

What is your favorite moment thus far as a Hornet?
My favorite moment as a Hornet this year would have to be my performance at the Sprints, Jumps and Throws meet this past month. I had a spectacular day and my best throw of the year in shotput thus far as well as earning the title of second all-time at LC.

What are your expectations for the rest of the season?
I would like to stay consistently around 50 feet or better in shotput as well as improve my performance in the weight throw. I would also like to win in shotput at the ODAC Indoor Championships later this year. My future goal is to make it to Nationals and compete with the best.

What do you like most about LC track and field?
My favorite part about LC Track and Field is the closeness of all of the athletes on the team. Everyone is very supportive of each others events and always cheering for whatever event is going on. The best part of the LC track and field team is the intensity that each and every member of the team brings, whether it be practice or a meet. We are always working on improving ourselves and its just awsome to be a part of something as great as the LC T&F team.
