Former Hornet Jared Melot Named Head Men's Soccer Coach at Albright College
Story couresty of Albright College
Former Lynchburg College player and assistant coach Jared Melot has been named the new head men's soccer coach at Albright College, heading into the 2013 season.
Melot becomes the ninth head coach in program history; Albright has sponsored men's soccer since 1976.
Pat Stanco will remain on staff as the head women's soccer coach. Stanco also coached the men for the last eight years, winning a program-record 59 games.
Melot was an assistant with the men's and women's teams in 2011 and 2012. The men went 8-10-1 last season, while the women earned consecutive Commonwealth and ECAC South playoff appearances. The Lady Lions won their first-ever ECAC playoff game in 2011.
Melot came to Albright after two years as a men's graduate assistant with his alma mater, Lynchburg College. The Hornets won the ODAC both seasons, and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship, losing 2-1 in overtime to Commonwealth opponent Messiah. They were 20-5-1 that season and were ranked #2 in the final NSCAA poll.
At Lynchburg Melot served under Chris Yeager, who was the 2010 National Coach of the Year.
As a player, Melot was a two-year captain and played in two ODAC championship games with Lynchburg, winning one and earning an automatic NCAA tournament berth.
He was also a four year starter and won a state championship with local Antietam High School.
Melot started his coaching career his freshman year of college at Appomattox, a small high school in central Virginia. He coached six years of high school soccer while in Virginia, helping guide E.C. Glass to the state quarterfinals. He also coached at a local club for a year while in Virginia.
Along with coaching, Melot was employed as a Residential Life Area Coordinator at Albright from 2011-13.
Melot will become one of the younger head coaches in NCAA soccer at just 25 years old. He hopes to get local clubs and the community involved in Albright Soccer as much as possible.
Melot completed a B.A. in Sports Management in 2009, and earned an M. Ed. In Educational Leadership in 2012.
