Michael Releford Honored as VaSID First Team All-State Goalkeeper

BRIDGEWATER, VA –Lynchburg College junior goalkeeper Michael Releford was honored with a first team selection when the VaSID College Division Men's Soccer All-State team was released on Wednesday.

This is the second time that the goalkeeper from Blacksburg, Virginia has been named to the first team, with the first coming in 2010.

Releford allowed a mere 14 goals in 18 games for the Hornets this season while making 70 saves. His .833 save percentage was the best in the state of Virginia amongst Division III goalkeepers who have played at least half of their team's minutes. Releford's .752 goals against average was good for 38th best in all of Division III.

Jalon Brown of Christopher Newport University was named Player of Year to go along with first team All-American and USA South Player of the Year accolades. Roanoke College coach Scott Allison was named Coach of the Year in his final season leading the Maroons. Erik Albarran of Bluefield College rounded out the major awards as Rookie of the Year.

The Hornets finished the season 7-7-4 with a 6-1-4 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
