LC Men's Soccer Suffers Tough Defeat in ODAC Quarters

LYNCHBURG, VA – The season came to a tough ending for the #3 seeded Lynchburg College men's soccer team as visiting #6 seed, Virginia Wesleyan outlasted the Hornets 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterfinals Saturday night.

The loss comes less than a week after their previous matchup as the Hornets defeated the Marlins by the same score on Tuesday.

The Marlins kept the pressure on junior goalkeeper Michael Releford early. Releford was forced to make a save on a shot by Travis Walke just over a minute into the match. That shot and save were a sign of things to come as Releford had to make seven saves on the night.

LC had chances late in the game. Daniel Jobrack headed a ball into the center of the box where Tajee Harley's shot sailed just high of the goal with under five minutes to go.

The defense once again stepped up for the Hornets, keeping the Marlins' strong offensive unit at bay.

Virginia Wesleyan's Brian Cornell netted the goal for the visitors. Cornell was in the right place at the right time as Josh Kemp took a corner kick for the Marlins (8-9-1/7-5). After Isaac Arrington stepped in with a shot that was blocked by an LC defender, Cornell found it on his foot for the game winner.

Lynchburg ends the season with a record of 7-7-4 overall and 6-2-4 in the ODAC.
