LC Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with Roanoke

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team went the full 110 minutes with Roanoke College on Wednesday night to finish in a goalless draw.  With the tie, LC keeps its undefeated record in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The first half contained possession play on both sides of the ball, with both teams registering only five shots in the stanza.  Roanoke earned more corner kicks in the half, 4-1, but the Hornets had the best chance at the 34 minute mark.  Luke Moore collected a cleared ball off of a RC corner, and outsprinted several Maroon defenders.  He ripped a shot to the far post, but it went wide.

The pace picked up for both teams in the second half, with Roanoke gaining several early chances.  LC would respond, with Chaz Ashton firing a shot on net off of a quick throw in, but Maroon goalie Cole Sinclair made the stop.  RC had a chance with 11 minutes when Patrick Bain's throw in was almost deflected in net by Chris Conover.  Hornet defender Josh Hinkle cleared it off the line.  With 2:50 left in the second half, TJ Guerra shot the ball wide in the last opportunity before the end of regulation.

Each teams received scoring chances in the overtime periods.  Michael Venegas put his shot left of near post, and Tyler Carbaugh followed Venegas' ball with his own shot going over the crossbar near the end of the first overtime.  In the second half of the overtime, Moore took his shot wide, and the game ended scoreless.

Sinclair led the Maroons (5-3-1 overall, 3-1-1 ODAC) with three saves.  Michael Releford made five saves for the Hornets to push his 403 minute scoreless streak.

Lynchburg (3-5-3, 2-0-3) heads to Washington and Lee University on Saturday to continue its ODAC slate.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
