Hornet Men's Soccer Scores 3-0 Win over Shenandoah
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team defeated visiting Shenandoah University 3-0 Saturday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest on Parents and Family Weekend.
LC got on the scoreboard 11:20 into the contest on a Shenandoah own goal. The lead became 2-0 at the 37:51 mark as freshman Tyler Guerra fed freshman David Steele and Lynchburg took a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Sophomore Luke Moore added an insurance goal in the final three minutes on an assist from freshman Frankie Winski. The Hornet offense looked sharp all night, outshooting SU 27-10 with an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. Two potential Hornet tallies were erased due to off-sides violations and Shenandoah defender Charles Perrin recovered to take a sure goal away from Moore after he got behind the keeper early in the first half.
Junior keeper Michael Releford made five stops for LC to preserve the shutout. James Dutcher made eight saves for Shenandoah (2-7/0-3 ODAC). Lynchburg last scored three times in the 2010 season, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament against Transylvania University, a 3-1 victory.
The Hornets are back in action Wednesday as they travel across town to Randolph College for an ODAC contest at 7 p.m.
