Releford Earns All-State Honors For Second Consecutive Year
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2011 College Division Men's Soccer All-State Team this week, and Lynchburg College sophomore Michael Releford was one of the athletes honored.
The goalkeeper from Blacksburg, VA earned second-team All-State in his second year at Lynchburg. This year, Releford was an instrumental part of the stingy Hornet defense that allowed only 19 goals in 20 games, with Releford allowing 18. He made 86 saves on the year which was good for a save percentage of .827 and finished with a goals against average of 0.88 per game. Those totals were all second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) this season. For his efforts, he was named to the All-ODAC first team this year.
In a Hornet uniform, Releford has established himself as one of the best keepers in the nation and has been honored several times. As a freshman, Releford made the All-ODAC first-team, the All-State first-team, the All-Region third-team, and was named the Defensive MVP of the NCAA tournament as Lynchburg made it to the national championship.
