Sweet and Davis Named ODAC Athletes of the Week
FOREST, VA – For the third time this spring, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) named a Hornet as men's lacrosse player of the week and men's track and field athlete of the week. On Monday, Derek Sweet won the honor for the former and Rachad Davis took it in the latter.
Sweet not only put great numbers for the Hornets this past week, but also did it in clutch situations. In the overtime win over #9 Washington and Lee University, he scored two goals, with the second one tying the game up and sending it to the extra session. In the heartbreaking loss against #5 Stevenson University, the senior attack scored four goals and assisted on two more. His fourth goal once again tied the game, sending it into overtime. It is his first designation as player of the week.
Davis also had a very successful weekend for LC. In the LC Commonwealth Duals, Davis took the win in the 400 meter hurdles and finished second in the 110 meter hurdles. However, because the top runner was unattached, Davis received five points in each event, during the old-school head-to-head meet. The two times (53.89 and 14.98) are in the top-ten of the nation, with the 400 being fifth and 110 sitting eighth. Davis also helped the 4x100 meter relay team take second in the meet at 42.51.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action Wednesday night for their first home game in a month. They host Randolph College in an ODAC contest set to begin at 7 p.m. The men's track and field team will run this weekend, with some runners heading to the Duke Invitational and some staying in town for the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.
