#3 Men's Lax Pulls Away for 15-4 Win over Marywood
LYNCHBURG, VA – The third-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team survived an early scare from Marywood University, pulling away as the game moved along for a 15-4 victory Thursday in non-conference action.
Lynchburg made the first score of the contest on an unassisted goal by freshman Austin Stewart. Marywood answered three minutes later on a score by Ryan Nowell with 8:30 remaining in the first. LC rounded out the quarter with goals by senior Derek Sweet and Stewart.
The Pacers kept attacking in the second quarter, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity for a goal less than two minutes into the period. Sam Trill was the benefactor of the Brandon Terlizzi pass, cutting the score to 3-2.
Lynchburg junior Charlie Oldendorp answered less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal before the Pacers cut it back to a one-goal game on a score by Richie Manuli off a Riley Dobel assist.
The Hornets went on a run from that point, netting the next 10 goals and 11 of the final 12 scored in the game. Stewart and fellow freshman Aaron Murphy each scored two goals during the ten goal surge for LC.
Lynchburg converted on all but two clear attempts while Marywood had four failed clear attempts. The Hornets also collected ten more groundballs than the Pacers (50-40).
Stewart led the Hornets with four goals. Sweet had four assists to go with his goal, while senior Max Voumard and Murphy each added two goals. Sophomore Adam Davey made nine saves for LC in three quarters of work.
Nicholas Cornella made a game-high 19 saves for the Pacers (0-4).
Lynchburg (4-0) travels to #14 Gettysburg (2-1) for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
