No.3 LC Men's Lacrosse Beats Virginia Wesleyan 17-6, Earns First-Round ODAC Tournament Bye

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Leading the game off with six-straight goals, the third-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team finished out the regular season with a 17-6 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. Lynchburg has clinched the number one seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament, earning a bye in the first round.

Senior Dylan Hoff led the attack with five goals and three assists. Fellow senior Andrew Wilfong and junior Vin Curran each tallied three goals as well.

Wilfong and Hoff combined for the first five goals of the game, all coming within the first eight minutes of play. Sophomore Thomas Rodenhouse capped off the six-goal run before Virginia Wesleyan got on the board at 3:45 of the period. Hoff and junior Joseph Lisicky registered goals in the first, but the Marlins kept it close with three more scores, giving LC a 8-4 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second period began with a Wilfong goal, followed by a tally from senior Ben Sauer. Sauer scored again in the period along with Junior Pat Ohrem for a 12-4 lead at halftime.

LC closed out the game with two goals in the third from Curran and another three tallies in the fourth quarter from Ohrem, Hoff and Curran. VWC scored twice in the second half, but LC cruised in the end, winning 17-6. Senior Franc Cook made 15 saves in the game.

Joe Papetti led the Marlins (9-6/3-4 ODAC) with two goals while Corey Bauer made 17 saves in net.

Lynchburg closes out the season with a 15-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the ODAC. The Hornets will play the winner of the #4 vs. #5 matchup of Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Wesleyan College in the semi-final round next weekend. Further details will be announced during the week.
