LYNCHBURG, VA – The #3 Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team scored 16 straight goals on their way to defeating cross-town rival Randolph College 16-1, Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game. With 10-straight wins, it is the second-longest winning streak in program history behind the 2008 squad that won 14 in a row.
Senior attack Dylan Hoff opened up the scoring at 13:35 of the first quarter, with an unassisted goal. The Hornets scored five more in the first, with Pat Ohrem putting two in the back of the net and assisting on one other. Hoff helped on three scores in the period as well.
In the second period, LC continued to control the pace, scoring four more times, with freshman Todd Galvin and sophomore Charlie Oldendorp each tallying their second of the night. After intermission, Oldendorp would score the only two goals of the third stanza. In the fourth, Lynchburg would score four goals, before Randolph scored with 1:04 remaining.
LC set a second record on the night. The team scooped up a single-game record of 72 ground balls. Derek Sweet had a team-high six ground balls, followed by Jernack who collected five. Joe Lisicky, Chase Loetz, and Luke Ernst all corralled four during the game.
Oldendorp led the Hornets with four goals on the night. Ben Sauer, Matt Manzo, Campbell Armstrong, Loetz, Rob Arnold, Nick Betonti, and Patrick Dinneny all notched goals on the night, with those by Betonti and Dinneny being their first collegiate goals.
The WildCats (3-9 overall, 0-5 ODAC) lone goal came from attack John Croney. Goalie Kevin McCracken made 20 saves in a losing effort for Randolph.
Lynchburg (11-1, 4-0) will host Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The ODAC match-up will go a long way in deciding seeding for the upcoming conference tournament as Randolph-Macon sits in second place in the standings.
