Lynchburg Men's Lacrosse Ranked #3 Nationally by USILA
PERRY, NY – The Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team has moved up to #3 in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III poll.
The Hornets began the season ranked #11, and were in the fifth spot last week. However, with wins over Ursinus College and Hampden-Sydney College, and losses by teams ahead of them, the Hornets jumped into the top three, behind only Salisbury University and SUNY Cortland.
As a team, Lynchburg ranks in the top-25 in several national categories. LC ranks as the 26th best scoring offense, averaging 11.91 goals per game. Not wanting to be overshadowed by the offense, the Hornets defense has played even better, currently tied as the 21st best scoring defense in the nation. Lynchburg allows a miniscule 6.55 goals a game. With the defense and the offense playing this well, LC is ranked 20th in the nation in overall scoring margin, outscoring opponents by 5.36 goals per game.
One of the reasons for the success of the defense is senior goalie Franc Cook. Cook currently ranks 22nd in goals against average, allowing only 6.44 goals a game. He also has the 34th best save percentage in the nation, stopping 60.4% of the shots he has faced.
LC (10-1 overall, 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) is currently tied at the top of the ODAC with Randolph-Macon College. Lynchburg will look to improve on the record this Wednesday, as they travel across town to take on ODAC foe Randolph College. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
