Q and A with Hornet of the Week Omar Kemp

Q and A with Hornet of the Week Omar Kemp

The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The 19th student-athlete selected this year is men's basketball sophomore Omar Kemp.

Kemp had two career performances this past week for the Hornets. The sophomore from Fredericksburg, VA collected career highs of 12 points and nine rebounds against Virginia University of Lynchburg before contributing another 11 points and swatting two blocks, another career best, against Randolph-Macon College on Saturday. It was the first time in his career that Kemp has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.

You have been needed to provide a larger impact in the post this year and it was on display last week with two double-figure scoring performances. What are some things you worked on the most to improve the way you have?

I mainly had to improve my confidence on the court and was able to do that by working on my individual skills in and out of practice.

What is your favorite thing about Lynchburg men's basketball?

The main thing I love about my team is the family that we have here. We all have each other's back not only on the court, but off as well.

What do you like most about Lynchburg College?

The thing I love the most about Lynchburg College is the learning environment and atmosphere they have for the students here. It really gives you the opportunity to further your education.

In your mind, what does it mean to be a student-athlete and how has Lynchburg helped you out?

The term student-athlete means to me the infinite struggle of organizing your priorities. As a student-athlete you have to have a constant reminder that your grades come first before anything else.
