LC's Austin Chillemi Selected for ODAC Basketball Officials' Scholarship
LYNCHBURG, VA – Recent Lynchburg College graduate Austin Chillemi recently was selected to receive this year's ODAC Basketball Officials Association Scholarship award.
The scholarship is presented to a graduating basketball player who has enrolled in a graduate degree program for the upcoming year. The amount of the one-time scholarship is $500, and can be used for books, tuition, or other expenses directly related to continuing education.
Chillemi is returning to LC next year as a graduate assistant coach for the Hornets men's basketball program and will pursue a graduate degree in Educational Leadership. The Hornets were 57-48 in Chillemi's four-year playing career, the team's best since the 1970s. A two-time All-ODAC selection and a three-year starter, he ended with 949 points, 503 rebounds and 125 blocked shots, while shooting 52 percent from the field.
"Austin was a part of my first recruiting class as a head coach and showed the most improvement of any player I've coached," said Hornet head mentor Hilliary Scott. "He was one of my hardest workers and always set the tone on the team with his work ethic in practice as well as in the weight room. Austin was also one of the most unselfish players in our program and always thought about team first. His teammates respected his hard work and dedication and it was contagious throughout the team.
"Austin has been a model young man and a great ambassador for my program as well as for the College. He is the definition of a true 'Hornet'."
