Hornets Help with Relay for Life

LYNCHBURG, VA – This past Friday night and Saturday morning, the Lynchburg College community hosted its 10th Annual Relay for Life.  With this event, organizations from all over campus helped out to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  Included in those organizations were several teams and individuals from the LC athletic department.

Three teams - men's and women's basketball, and volleyball – all had fundraising campsites at the event.  The volleyball team sold baked goods, while the basketball teams were offering prizes for hitting a home run or sinking two shots in corn hole.  Other athletes stopped by to donate their time and money to support the cause.  Assistant Sports Information Director Ryan Killilea manned the grill, cooking hotdogs with Dean of Students John Eccles for five hours during the night.

At the end of the night, the Relay committee had totaled over $23,000, which is shy of the total the goal.  However, donations can still be made online at the Lynchburg College page through the website relayforlife.org.  Help the committee reach the goal, so Dean Eccles will have to dye his beard purple.
