Hornet Men Hit 14 Three-Pointers En Route to 90-65 Victory over Shenandoah
LYNCHBURG, VA – The fifth-seeded Lynchburg College men's basketball team hit 14 three-pointers and cruised to a 90-65 victory Tuesday evening over #12 Shenandoah University in the first round of the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.
LC now will face #4 Randolph College in an ODAC Quarterfinal contest Friday at 3 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.
Lynchburg started out the first half strong, opening a quick 12-point lead in the first five minutes. LC extended the advantage to 26 (46-20) and led 54-31 at intermission. The LC Hornets shot 61 percent from behind the three-point arc in the first 20 minutes (11-18).
Lynchburg took its largest lead at 73-39 at the 12:32 mark of the first half. Shenandoah cut the edge to 20 late in the second half. Freshman Austin Arnold hit the program record 14th three- pointer with 1:20 left on the game clock, breaking the old record of 13 set three different times.
Junior Manny Hernandez scored a game-high 19 points, hitting 7-of-12 shots and three three-pointers. Senior guard Robby Kaiser hit five of his nine three point attempts in just 10 minutes of action for 15 points. Senior forward Michael Wims had 12 points and seven rebounds and senior center Austin Chillemi had 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Brandan Connor had 11 points behind 3-of-4 three-point shooting and added four assists and sophomore guard Andrew Simmons contributed nine assists and five rebounds.
Shenandoah (3-23) was paced by 13 points and six rebounds from Shaquille Rodney. Kevin Lecsaint added seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Lynchburg ups its record to 19-7, the most wins for the program since the 1977-78 season.
