Lynchburg Rides Strong Second Half in 87-73 Defeat of Wasps

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team rode a strong second-half surge Wednesday night to defeat Emory & Henry, 87-73, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Wasps were trailing 39-27 with 1:56 left in the first half when they went on a 9-0 run to end the period with Lynchburg clinging to a 39-36 lead.

Lynchburg killed the momentum coming out of the half when senior Michael Wims knocked down a jumper. Following a jumper by E&H's Myles Turner, the Hornets scored five straight on a pair of free throws by junior Manny Hernandez and a three-pointer by senior Brandan Connor.

The Wasps answered with back-to-back layups from Armando Murrell and Tyler Mullins. Both teams went back and forth until the 14:32 mark when the Hornets went on another run, this time a 12-2 affair, to assume a commanding 64-47 lead.

Lynchburg (13-3/4-3 ODAC) was led by 20 points from Hernandez while senior Austin Chillemi had 17 points to go with seven boards. Wims contributed nine points to go with a game-high 10 rebounds, and juniors Andrew Simmons and Xavier Parham also had nine points apiece.

Stephen Brown led the Wasps (3-11/1-6 ODAC) with 14 points, and Kevin Anzenberger and Murrell each added 11. Mullins had 10 points while tying Murrell for a team-high six boards.

Lynchburg travels to Shenandoah University (3-13/0-7 ODAC) on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start in more ODAC action.
