Hornets Hang With DI Coastal Carolina, But Fall 86-61
CONWAY, SC – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team trailed by just three points early in the second half, but a strong finish led to an 86-61 Chanticleer victory.
Coastal Carolina held a 39-26 lead in the closing minutes of the first half, but a 14-6 Hornet run, fueled by seven points from junior forward Michael Wims, to finish the period gave the Chanticleers just a 45-40 edge at intermission. An Austin Chillemi layup to start off the second half put LC within three, and Lynchburg was still within just five (50-45) with 15:39 on the game clock. A 21-4 Chanticleer surge over the next eight minutes put the game out of reach.
Wims finished the game with a team-high 16 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots and both three pointers. Sophomore Xavier Parham tallied 13 points, four steals and three assists. Robby Kaiser drilled a pair of three pointers and also grabbed four rebounds.
Anthony Raffa scored a game-high 26 points, while Chris Gradnigo added 18 points and nine rebounds for Coastal (9-1).
The Hornets (7-4) are off until 2012, playing on January 1 at Virginia Wesleyan College at 2 p.m.
