Big Second Half Leads Hornets to 3-1 Victory and Spot in ODAC Title Match

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team fell behind in the first half, but an early offensive onslaught proved the difference in the second half as the Hornets defeated Bridgewater College 3-1 Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinal.

Caroline Augsburger found the back of the cage 15 minutes in for the Eagles to put a charge into the fans that made the trip down. The Bridgewater defense held the Hornets scoreless in the remainder of the half despite four shots on goal that were turned away by Jessica Balsano.

The Hornets turned up the intensity in the second half, drawing the game even one minute out of halftime when Morgan Lammando put away a rebound off a blocked shot.

Kelsey Link added the game-winner two minutes later on another unassisted attempt. Five minutes into the second half, the Hornets had a 2-1 lead that would last. Nicole Marburger added an insurance tally off a Katie Kline penalty corner late in the match to advance the Hornets to the championship.

Lynchburg outshot Bridgewater 22-8, while maintaining a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners. Jordan Seeley made two saves in goal for LC.

Lynchburg will participate in its tenth straight ODAC Championship game this Saturday at home against Randolph-Macon College. It will be the fourth straight year the two have faced off for the championship. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
