#14 Lynchburg Starts ODAC Season on Winning Note, Steele Wins 499

LEXINGTON, VA – The 14th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team used a balanced offensive attack to down Washington & Lee University 3-0 Tuesday evening in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.

Captain Nicole Marburger got the scoring started for the Hornets, deflecting in a shot from ten yards out into the near corner of the cage with 12 minutes left in the first half.

Kelli Williams got on the board shortly after the halftime break, putting away a ball off a Meredith Bradsher assist.

The final Lynchburg goal was scored on a great play that allowed Catherine Rogerson to set up on the near post of the cage. Taylor Quillen was able to get the ball in front where Rogerson sneaked it past the keeper, Megan Axelrod.

It was the first goal of the season for all three Hornets.

Axelrod made ten saves for Washington & Lee (1-5/0-1). Jordan Seeley collected two saves for Lynchburg (4-2/1-0) in the shutout.

Lynchburg outshot the Generals 22-5 while maintaining an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Hornets take on York (Pa.) College Saturday at 4 p.m as head coach Enza Steele attempts to go for career win #500.
