#13 Lynchburg Bounces Back, Downs Wittenberg 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The 13th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team picked up its first win of the 2013 season Saturday, downing Wittenberg University 3-0.

The Hornets did not waste any time taking the early lead against the Tigers as Nicole Marburger found Katie Kline six minutes into the contest for a 1-0 advantage.

Reminiscent of the first half, Kline capitalized on another opportunity early in the second. Kelli Williams sent a ball in front of the cage that Kline was able to redirect past Wittenberg goalie Sarah Brownell just two minutes into the period.

Looking for a little more insurance, Megan McAnally corralled a rebound and slammed it to the back of the cage for her second-career goal with five minutes remaining to put the game away.

The Lynchburg defense did a great job holding Wittenberg at bay, restricting the home team to four shots, one on goal that was saved by Jordan Seeley, while finishing with a 10-2 advantage on penalty corners.

By comparison, Brownell had 17 saves for Wittenberg (0-2) in an attempt to keep the match close.

Lynchburg (1-1) returns home for a non-conference matchup with #9 Christopher Newport University Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
