Hornet Field Hockey Advances Past W&L 4-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 19th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team advanced past Washington & Lee University 4-0 Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Hornets got on the board 12 minutes into play on a W&L own goal on a ball fired into the circle by LC's Melanie Tenney. Lindsay Leonard made the score 2-0 on an assist from fellow senior co-captain Shelly Milks, and Lynchburg took the two-goal lead into intermission.
Milks found the back of the cage just after halftime and sophomore Kelsey Link added an insurance goal at 48:34 from Milks.
LC dominated the statistical categories, out-shooting the Generals 47-0 and holding a 17-2 edge in penalty corners, both after time had expired.
General goalie Kirsten Kyne made 21 saves, and Caroline Andress made two defensive saves for W&L (3-7/1-2 ODAC).
The Hornets (9-3/5-0 ODAC) travel to York College Saturday for a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
