Hornet Field Hockey Rolls to 9-1 Win over Bridgewater
LYNCHBURG, VA – A balanced scoring attack led the 19th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team to a 9-1 win Friday night over Bridgewater College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.
Six Hornets scored, including three with two goals each: senior Lindsay Leonard, freshman Tess Brzezynski and sophomore Katie Kline each had two scores, while Kelsey Link and Morgan Lammando had a goal an assist apiece. Kelli Williams found the back of the cage for LC and Brzezynski, Shelly Milks, Ashley Vogan and Courtney Gillette also had assists.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, at the 4:44 mark on a tally by Taylor Prillaman from Colleen Dickson. Bridgewater held the 1-0 lead until 10 minutes in, but two quick Hornet scores from Link and Leonard gave LC a 2-1 lead. Lynchburg would score four more times before intermission and tack on three tallies in the second half.
Bridgewater (5-4/2-1) keeper Jessica Balsano made 23 saves. Lynchburg out-shot the Eagles 49-4 and held a 12-1 edge in penalty corners.
Lynchburg (8-2/4-0 ODAC) travels to Christopher Newport University on Sunday for a battle of top 20 teams at 2 p.m. CNU is ranked #14 in the most recent NFHCA poll.
