#18 Elizabethtown Upsets #13 LC Field Hockey 2-1
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA –The 18th-ranked Elizabethtown College field hockey team scored two early goals and held off #13 Lynchburg College for a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon.
Taylor Alwine scored from Casey Fletcher on a penalty corner to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead just 5:28 into the contest. Alwine fed Andrea Keady 22 minutes in to give E-town a much-needed two goal cushion. Senior midfielder Shelly Milks answered for LC six minutes later but the Hornets couldn't manage the game-tying score in the remaining 42 minutes of play. Lynchburg had two penalty corners as time expired in the first half and one at the end of regulation, but couldn't convert.
LC held an 11-9 edge in penalty corners, while the Blue Jays had a 16-10 advantage in total shots. Hornet junior goalie Hannah Myers made seven stops in the cage, while junior defender Melanie Tenney made a pair of defensive saves.
Lindy Hamp made three saves for Elizabethtown (5-1).
Lynchburg (4-2) faces off with Wesley College (DE) Thursday at 5 p.m. in a contest to be played at the University of Mary Washington.
