Hornets Control Game, Win 4-0 Over Roanoke

LYNCHBURG, VA – The #13 Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Roanoke College 4-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams Wednesday night.

Lynchburg earned a penalty corner four minutes into the game to get things started.  Morgan Lammando sent the insert to Nicole Marburger, who scored her first goal of the year with a shot that hit the left side of the cage.

The Hornets scored their second of the night at 18:34.  Colleen Dore took a bouncing ball near the net and sent it off of Roanoke goalie Darian Shuker into the back of the net.

LC would go onto to score two more in the second half.  The referee awarded a penalty stroke to the Hornets, and Melanie Tenney sent it into the top right of the cage for her first tally of the year.  Tess Brzezynski finished off the scoring after deflecting in a pass from Megan McAnally, who recorded her first career point on the assist.

LC held Roanoke in check the entire game.  Lynchburg outshot registered 40 shots and 13 penalty corners, with the Maroons having one of each in the final minute of the second half.

Shuker led the Maroons (0-4 overall, 0-1 ODAC) with 16 saves.

Jordan A. Seeley earned her first career start and shutout for Lynchburg, with one save on the night.

LC (4-1, 1-0) heads to Elizabethtown, PA on Saturday to take on the #18 Blue Jays.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
