Late Goal Lifts Mary Washington over LC Field Hockey 3-2

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Caitlin Baker scored with just over a minute left to play to give the University of Mary Washington a 3-2 win Saturday over seventh-ranked Lynchburg College in non-conference action.

Hornet senior attack Lindsay Leonard opened the game with a goal at the 5:17 mark from junior Kelli Williams. The Eagles' Lisa Charney scored unassisted back-to-back goals to put UMW ahead 2-1 with just 12:13 expired in the first half.

Mary Washington held onto the one-goal lead for the next 55 minutes until sophomore attack Kelsey Link found the back of the cage with three minutes left to tie the game. Baker scored off a Charney feed with 1:19 remaining on the game clock.

Junior Hannah Myers made 10 saves for LC, while Claire Gianelle stopped six shot for UMW (4-0). The Eagles outshot LC 23-14 and held a 14-9 edge in penalty corners.

The Hornets (2-1) look to rebound Sunday morning against William Patterson University (NJ), in a game to be played on the campus of Mary Washington at 11 a.m.
