Lynchburg Field Hockey Captures Five NCAA Statistical Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The NCAA recently honored the Lynchburg College field hockey team for finishing at the top of five statistical categories in Division III. For its accomplishments, the team will receive plaques from the NCAA for each of the five categories.

Lynchburg placed first in scoring average (5.38), points per game (13.62), goals per game (5.38), goals against average (0.57), and scoring margin (4.81).

Led by junior All-American Shelly Milks and All-ODAC first team selection Lindsay Leonard, LC's offense scored 113 goals on the season versus 12 scored by its opponents. Leonard scored 31 goals and assisted on 11 more. Milks tallied 10 goals and nine assists.

Lynchburg also had key contributions from sophomore Kelli Williams who registered 13 goals and seven assists. ODAC and All-State Rookie of the Year Katie Kline scored 11 goals and dished out nine assists as well. Senior goalie Tiffany Frye allowed only 11 shots past her this season, helping propel Lynchburg to the lowest goals against average mark in the country.

The Hornets finished the season 19-2 with a perfect 8-0 record in conference. LC captured its sixth straight ODAC title and made the NCAA tournament for the seventh straight season, going as far as the national quarterfinals.
