Shelly Milks Named ODAC Field Hockey Player of the Year
Seven Hornets Honored
FOREST, VA - Lynchburg College sophomore midfielder Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Player of the Year Wednesday as the all-conference team was announced.
Milks led the Hornets to an unbeaten record in conference play and their fifth-straight ODAC Tournament Title. Offensively, she was third on the team in assists (9) and points (29) and fourth in goals (10), including two game winning tallies. Defensively, Milks helped LC hold opponents to just 16 goals in 19 matches.
Senior Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and junior Amanda Wain (Fairfax, VA/Oakton) joined Milks on the All-ODAC first team. Weir led the conference with 19 goals and 48 points and is tied for the conference-high with 10 assists. It is her third-straight year on the first-team. Wain, another solid two-way player, started all 19 games and scored three times with five assists. She also made two defensive saves.
Junior goalie Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) and senior defender Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) each took home second-team accolades. Both were a large part in the Hornets allowing just 16 goals this season, 20 scores less than the next-best defensive unit.
