LC Riders Finish First Place at Hollins University Horse Show
ROANOKE, VA-The Lynchburg College riders placed an impressing first place at the Hollins University horse show Sunday, Oct. 31. The Hornets scored 43 points as a team and were seven points ahead of second place Sweet Briar College.
Kelly Gerland (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was the high point rider for the show. She took first place in the open fences and the open flat. Krissy Guthrie (Glenmore, PA/Downingtown) placed fourth in the open fences and first in the novice flat. Haley Bagwell (Shreveport, LA/The Grier School) finished second place in the intermediate fences. Shelby Wambold (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) came in fifth place in the novice fences, and Jordan Rooney (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) rode to a first place finish in the open flat.
Jamie Carille (Virginia Beach, VA/Frank W. Cox) finished first in the intermediate flat, while Taylor Fellows (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle) took second in the intermediate flat. Rachel Jones (Toano, VA/Warhill) finished first place in the novice flat and Emilee Herbert (Baltimore, Maryland/Towson) placed fourth in the novice flat. Kelli Greenslade and Drew Nichols (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) both took second place in walk trot canter. Morgan Kemp came in second place in walk trot for the Hornets.
The Hollins University horse show was the last regular season event for the riders of LC. The Hornets are leading Zone 4, Region 2 at the break by 18 points over Hollins, Bridgewater and Sweet Briar. This is the first time LC has led after the first semester. The Hornet riders will be back in action again on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Holiday Tournament of Champions, which will be hosted by St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC.
