Three Hornet Baseball Players Honored on All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, VA—Juniors Brandon Miller and Rob Tomasulo were named to the All-ODAC First Team while fellow junior Lincoln Evans earned second team honors when the Old Dominion Athletic Conference unveiled its end of season baseball awards on Friday morning.

Shenandoah University claimed three of the four major awards as junior third baseman Michael Paul and sophomore starting pitcher Darrell Thompson received ODAC Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively. Kevin Anderson rounded out the awards for Shenandoah as he took home ODAC Coach of the Year accolades.

Sophomore Nicholas Maiolo of Randolph-Macon College earned ODAC Rookie of the Year honors after missing his freshman campaign due to injury.

Guilford senior John Macon Smith was honored for the second straight year as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete. In the classroom, Smith maintains a 3.83 grade point average as an accounting major with a minor in business law.

Miller is appearing on the All-ODAC First Team for the first time in his career. He currently has a 9-4 record and a 2.70 ERA after pitching nine innings while surrendering one run against Randolph-Macon on day one of the ODAC tournament. Miller is one win away from tying the Lynchburg record for career wins.

Miller was a third team selection last season and second team selection as a freshman. He has also been honored previously with placement on the 2013 ODAC/Stellar One Sportsmanship Team.

This is the first postseason award for Tomasulo. The junior leads the Hornets with a .389 batting average. He set new season highs in many categories, including home runs (2), runs (32), and RBI (21) while sitting fourth in the conference in doubles (13) and fifth in on-base percentage (.494). Showing the ability to do more than hit, Tomasulo stole eight bases and throwing out 35.3% of would-be base stealers when behind the dish.

Evans is also a first time honoree with his inclusion on the All-ODAC Second Team. The junior has been a table setter for the Hornets all season, batting .359 from the lead-off spot. He is tied for the team lead with 13 doubles, has 29 RBI, and leads all Hornets in runs (37) and stolen bases (11) while the latter category ranks him ninth amongst ODAC competitors.
