Seven Hornets Earn All-ODAC Baseball Honors, Fitzpatrick Named Scholar Athlete

FOREST, VA – Seven Lynchburg College baseball players were named to the All-Conference team as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) on Saturday. LC's selections include three All-ODAC First Team selections for junior Brock Shiflett, senior Richard Palase and junior Dan Savage.

Junior Michael Kenah, freshman Brandon Miller, senior Robert Garrett picked up All-ODAC Second Team considerations while sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick earned All-ODAC Third Team honors. Fitzpatrick was also named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete for the 2012 season.

Shiflett, the 2010 ODAC Rookie of the Year, hit for an average of .365 this season with 24 RBI and 29 runs. The top designated hitter in the conference, he has an on-base percentage of .486. Palase made the top of the order for Lynchburg incredibly dynamic this season. With a .325 batting average, Palase tallied 87 total bases with 26 RBI and 53 runs while going 12-14 in stolen bases.

One of the top hitters in the country, Savage has compiled 48 RBI and 94 total bases. Out of his 64 hits, 20 have been doubles which is tied for seventh in the NCAA Division III. He has an on-base percentage of .454 and a slugging percentage of .604.  

Named to the Second Team, Kenah has made his mark at shortstop this season and as the Hornets cleanup hitter. With 40 RBI, 41 runs and 63 hits and a batting average of .383. He has a fielding percentage of .965 Kenah has played in every game this season.

Garrett picked up honors this season where he has gone 7-0 with an ERA of 2.86. He has pitched a team-high 69.1 innings and has compiled 45 strikeouts with only 22 earned runs.

Rounding out the All-ODAC Second Team is Miller, who is one of the top freshman pitchers in the country. In his last outing, Miller pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout against Emory & Henry College in the ODAC Tournament. His ERA is currently 1.64 while owning an 8-0 record with four saves.

Fitzpatrick picks up Third Team honors as catcher while hitting .352 this season. With an on-base percentage of .475, Fitzpatrick has been hit-by-pitch 25 times which set the LC school record for hit-by-pitch in a season. A business administration and economics major, he has a 4.0 GPA which earned him the Scholar Athlete award.

Lynchburg is currently 33-8 on the season and will play in the ODAC Championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Lynchburg City Stadium.
