Lynchburg Baseball Wins Third-Straight; Offense Fuels 19-3 Win Over Averett

LYNCHBURG, VA – For the second game in a row, the Lynchburg College baseball team scored 19 runs, with LC winning 19-3 over Averett University in non-conference action on Wednesday.

Junior Michael Del Buono, junior Dan Savage, sophomore Dustin Arrowood, sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick and freshman Pat Harris each had three RBI in the game. Senior Richard Palase added two RBI, while juniors Michael Kenah and Brock Shiflett each tallied one.

Averett scored one run in the top of the first inning but Lynchburg quickly responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Palase knocked an inside-the-park home run to lead off and two batters later, Shiflett sent a solo homer to right center. LC led 5-1 after the first and 7-1 after the third.

The Cougars put up two runs in the top of the fourth, but Lynchburg registered 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to open up the game. With two more scores in the bottom of the seventh LC cruised to a 19-3 victory.

Senior Jared Millner got the start and was relieved by freshman Charlie Thieringer who earned his third win of the season.

Matt Mitchell took the loss for Averett (14-9). James Carter led the Cougars with two RBI.

Lynchburg (12-4) hosts Tufts University on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. in non-conference play.
