Hornet Baseball Outmatches Ferrum 19-5
LYNCHBURG, VA – Behind a balanced offense the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Ferrum College 19-5 in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Michael Kenah led the way, going 5-6 with three RBI, scoring four times. He had two singles, two doubles and one triple. Juniors Michael Del Buono, Dan Savage and Ashton Paige each had three RBI as well in the game.
Lynchburg opened up the scoring in the first inning with four runs. Junior Brock Shiflett drove in one of his two RBI on the day, while sophomore Dustin Arrowood knocked in one. Paige singled to right field, bringing home two. Arrowood joined Shiflett with two RBI in the contest.
With two more runs in the second inning, LC held a 6-0 lead until the top of the fourth when Ferrum put three scores on the board. Savage doubled in two runs in the bottom of the fourth to answer back. Paige added an RBI-single, while freshman JP Nicholas Jr. doubled in two, making it an 11-3 advantage for Lynchburg by the end of the frame.
The Panthers tallied two runs in the top of the sixth while LC put up two in the bottom of the seventh and six more in the bottom of the eighth, eventually winning 19-5.
Freshman Brandon Miller started the game on the mound, striking out three while giving up three runs. Freshman Martin Henderlite pitched five and one-thirds innings, racking up five strikeouts and relinquishing only two runs while earning the win.
Chris Madison took the loss for Ferrum (13-6). Josh Mahaffey led the Panthers with two RBI, finishing 2-3 at the plate.
Lynchburg (11-4/2-2 ODAC) hosts Averett University on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. on Fox Field.
