LC Ranked #17 in Learfield Cup Rankings

WESTLAKE, OH – On Thursday, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released its second Division III Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Standings, and Lynchburg College found itself sitting at 17th among all of the Division III schools in the nation, with 182 total points.

The Learfield Cup is awarded to the institution whose athletic teams perform the best in the NCAA tournament.  The Hornets’ men’s cross country team finished 26th at the national championship meet in Terra-Haute, IN and earned 48 points for the finish.

The LC field hockey earned 70 points after making it to the NCAA quarterfinals for the second straight year, which came on the heels of its seventh-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title.

The final team to earn points for Lynchburg was the women’s soccer team.  They earned 64 points because of the appearance in the NCAA third round.

LC is the highest ranked team in the standings from the state of Virginia and the ODAC.  Christopher Newport University is the next highest ranked school from Virginia coming in at 25, and Bridgewater College is the next ODAC institution, taking the 72nd spot.
